Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has been selected to design, produce and install a new research reactor at the Monju site in a project led by Japan's national nuclear research and development agency.
 

TerraPower of the USA and the Japan Atomic Energy Agency, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Mitsubishi FBR Systems have agreed to expand their existing memorandum of understanding, signed in January 2022, on the development of sodium-cooled fast reactors.

Japanese utilities Chugoku Electric Power Company and Kansai Electric Power Company plan to jointly investigate the construction of a used fuel interim storage facility in Kaminoseki town in Yamaguchi prefecture. The facility would be built on land Chugoku acquired to build a nuclear power plant, plans for which have stalled.
