Eskom looks to November restart for Koeberg 1
South African utility Eskom has announced that unit 1 at its Koeberg nuclear power plant, which has been undergoing a long-term outage for maintenance and steam generator replacement, is now expected to return to service on 3 November. The start of similar work at Koeberg 2 has been postponed to 7 November to ensure that both units are not off line at the same time.

Bruce 6 restarted following refurbishment
Unit 6 of the Bruce nuclear power plant in Ontario has resumed operation following its Major Component Replacement project, Bruce Power announced. The Candu reactor, which was taken offline for the work in January 2020, is scheduled to resume commercial operation later this year.

Second refurbished Darlington reactor back online
The refurbished unit 3 of the Darlington nuclear power plant has been reconnected to the grid 169 days ahead of schedule, Ontario Power Generation announced. Unit 3 is the second of four Candu units at the site to undergo refurbishment in a 10-year project that will enable the plant to continue operations until 2055.

GSE to assist in US control room upgrade project
GSE Solutions Inc has been awarded a contract worth up to USD15 million for procedure and training support for an undisclosed nuclear power plant operator in the USA in its main control room modernisation project.

Refurb of Polish research reactor approved
Poland's Council of Ministers has adopted a resolution on the modernisation of the MARIA nuclear research reactor, enabling its operation after 2027. The purpose of the modernisation is to ensure the operation of the reactor until at least 2050.

Westinghouse to enhance safety of Ukrainian VVER-440s
Westinghouse has signed a contract with Ukraine's Energoatom to design, manufacture and deliver long-term containment cooling systems as part of the modernisation of units 1 and 2 of the Rivne nuclear power plant. Meanwhile, Westinghouse is working with 11 European partners to create security of supply of fuel for VVER reactors operating in the EU and Ukraine.

ČEZ seeking replacement generators at
Temelín
Czech nuclear power plant operator
ČEZ has launched what it calls one of its largest nuclear tenders in the past 20 years - for two new generators for the Temelín nuclear power plant. They are expected to increase output from 1125 MWe to 1150 MWe and will have an anticipated lifespan of 40 years.

Framatome awarded Ringhals modernisation contracts
Framatome has been awarded contracts by Sweden's Vattenfall to update reactor control systems using its digital instrumentation and control TELEPERM XS platform and refurbish the reactor coolant pumps for units 3 and 4 of the Ringhals nuclear power plant. The value of the contracts was not disclosed.

Fuelling to begin as first refurbished Bruce unit prepares for restart
Bruce Power has reached the major milestone of "substantial completion" of the construction phase of Major Component Replacement portion of refurbishment of Bruce unit 6 and will now begin refuelling work as the focus moves on to returning the plant to service later this year.

Further extending the operating life of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant's second unit was identified as a priority during a meeting between Rosatom Director General Alexei Likhachev and Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Second tranche of funding for Atucha investment raised
The fresh fundraising round for the operating extension of Atucha I and construction of a second dry storage facility for used fuel at the nuclear power plant site received offers of USD93 million, 16% more than expected, Nucleoelectrica Argentina said.

Removal of Koeberg steam generators gets under way
The first of Koeberg 1's steam generators has been removed in a project that will see all three of the South African unit's steam generators replaced in anticipation of its extended operation. The steam generators of unit 2 at the plant, near Cape Town, are also to be replaced.
