New structure for Rusatom Overseas
Rosatom is to restructure its Rusatom Overseas subsidiary into a trio of new companies to develop, manage and promote Russian nuclear technology internationally.
The first new company, JSC Rusatom Overseas Inc, will be responsible for the global promotion of Rosatom's integrated offer for nuclear power plant construction projects. Evgeny Pakermanov has been appointed as its director general.
JSC Rusatom International will be responsible for managing foreign nuclear power plant construction and operation projects, either via the build-own-operate (BOO) model or as a shareholder in project companies. This will include project management of the Akkuyu power plant in Turkey and the Hanhikivi plant in Finland. The company will be headed by Nikita Konstantinov.
A third new company will be responsible for the development of new nuclear non-energy business, and will be established by the end of the year. That company's name has not yet been announced.
Rusatom Overseas was registered by Rosatom in August 2011. With an authorized capital of 1 billion rubles (then worth $31.5 million), it was tasked with the promotion of products, services and technologies of the Russian nuclear industry to the global market.
Rosatom first deputy director Kirill Komarov explained that the restructuring was needed because of Rusatom Overseas' success in achieving all of the goals set in 2011. "Over the years the company has successfully grown in all three dimensions and developed a massive layer of business activities that cannot physically exist within a single company. The time has come to allocate these activities into three separate proven and focused businesses," he said.
