Mexican nuclear cleared to run into 2050s
The second reactor at Mexico's Laguna Verde nuclear power plant has been granted an extension to its operating licence, taking the lifetime of the plant into the mid-2050s. Nuclear is seen as doubling its contribution in advance of Mexico's 2050 targets.

Power sector reforms launched in Mexico
Mexico's state power concern, the Federal Electricity Commission (
Comisión Federal de Electricidad
, CFE), will become a vertically integrated state agency under reforms proposed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. The commission is the owner of the country's only nuclear power plant, Laguna Verde, which is on the Gulf coast.

Mexico's Laguna Verde plant relicensed for 30 years
Mexico's Ministry of Energy has authorised the renewal of the operating licence for unit 1 of the Laguna Verde nuclear power plant for an additional 30 years to 2050, by which time the unit will have been in commercial operation for 60 years.

Russia-Mexico agreement enters into force
An intergovernmental agreement between Russia and Mexico on cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy has entered into force, Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom announced today. The two countries signed the agreement in December 2013.

Arrests following Mexican source theft
Six suspects, apparently unharmed, have been arrested following the theft of a truck carrying a medical radioactive source in Mexico. The source was later found but had been removed from its container.
