The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute plans to supply nuclear fuel for Poland’s research reactor MARIA using high-density low-enriched uranium silicide plate-shaped nuclear fuel manufacturing technology.

A new agreement between the Japan Atomic Energy Agency and Polish National Centre for Nuclear Research has added the basic design of a research reactor to their ongoing collaborative R&D on high-temperature gas-cooled reactor technology.

Initial site investigations have begun for the construction of a Korean-supplied nuclear power plant in Pątnów in central Poland. In addition, 13 Memoranda of Understanding have been signed between Korean and Polish suppliers to cooperate on the project.

The Council of Ministers has formally approved the decision that the first nuclear power plant in Poland will use three Westinghouse AP1000 reactors - with the US company calling it an "historic day" as it looks to build a fleet of the reactors in central Europe.

US firm Westinghouse has been chosen to build Poland's first nuclear power plant, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has said, with US Vice President Kamala Harris saying the decision "can address the climate crisis, strengthen European energy security, and deepen the US-Poland strategic relationship".

Poland's Ministry of State Assets, South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Polish companies ZE PAK and Polska Grupa Energetyczna, and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power have agreed to develop plans for a nuclear power plant in Patnow in Poland.

Poland aims to build six nuclear plants in the coming years and has had offers from the USA’s Westinghouse, South Korea’s KHNP and France’s EDF. As the country’s deadline for making a decision approaches, Deputy Prime Minister Jacek Sasin and Climate Minister Anna Moskwa held talks in Washington with US Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm.

A master services agreement signed by Laurentis Energy Partners and Synthos Green Energy will support the development and deployment of small modular reactors in Poland. The agreement enables international collaboration between the two companies, beginning with early project planning.

Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe has applied to the President of the National Atomic Energy Agency (Panstwowa Agencja Atomistyki) for a general opinion on the planned verification of safety analyses for prospective nuclear power plants.

Westinghouse Electric Company has signed Memoranda of Understanding with 22 companies in Poland that allow for cooperation on the potential construction of AP1000 reactors in the country as well as other potential projects in Central Europe.

NuScale Power and Polish copper and silver producer KGHM Polska Miedź SA have signed the first task order and a statement of commencement to begin work under the Early Works Agreement signed by the companies earlier this year. Meanwhile, NuScale has signed a contract for the supply of neutron monitoring equipment for use in its small modular reactor.

The USA and Poland have set out a detailed bilateral roadmap for the construction of six large nuclear reactors using US technology and a framework for strategic cooperation in civil nuclear energy.
