Construction has started in Granada, Spain, of the International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility-Demo Oriented Neutron Source project. The facility will provide a fusion‐like neutron source for the qualification of the materials to be used in a fusion power plant.

Specialists at the St Petersburg-based JSC NIIEFA - part of the Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom - have started acceptance tests of a full-scale prototype of the first wall panel for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor fusion machine under construction in Cadarache, southern France.

SHINE Technologies of the USA says it has demonstrated clearly visible Cherenkov radiation produced by fusion for what is believed to be the first time. Historically, fusion has been demonstrated and detected with instruments instead of a visible light.

Investment in fusion has reached USD6.21 billion, says FIA
Investment in the global fusion industry has now reached a cumulative USD6.21 billion, up from USD4.8 billion a year ago, according to the third annual Global Fusion Industry Report from the Fusion Industry Association. The report surveyed 43 private fusion companies, up from 27 a year earlier.
