The signing ceremony took place at the VII Atomexpo 2015 conference and exhibition taking place this week in Moscow.
"For the first time in the history of Russian-Tunisian relations, this document has laid the legal foundation for interaction between Russia and Tunisia in nuclear energy, covering a broad range of topics," Rosatom said.
These include: support in the development of nuclear energy infrastructure in Tunisia; fundamental and applied research; the design, construction and operation of nuclear power plants and research reactors; the production and use of radioisotopes in industry, medicine and agriculture; radioactive waste management; the training of specialists in nuclear physics and nuclear energy.
"The MOU envisages the formation of a working group to determine joint projects that will contribute to the implementation of Tunisia's plans to establish a national nuclear energy sector, as well as other joint projects of mutual interest," Rosatom said. In addition, the document serves as preparation for an intergovernmental agreement between the two countries on cooperation in the peaceful use of the nuclear energy, it said.
