Doosan Vina celebrates N-Stamp
Doosan Vina of Vietnam has received six nuclear certificates from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), allowing the power equipment manufacturer to supply nuclear products.
The company received ASME's NPT, NA, NS, Site NPT, Site NA and Site NS certificates following the completion of an accreditation process that took over a year to complete. Four non-nuclear ASME certificates already held by the company have also been renewed.
The nuclear certificates in ASME's internationally recognised accreditation system are often referred to as N-Stamp. Accreditation means that Doosan Vina's quality assurance program and its implementation meet all of ASME's requirements for products to be used in the nuclear power industry.
Doosan Vina, established in 2007 by Doosan Heavy Industry and Doosan Engineering & Construction, describes itself as the only power plant facilities manufacturer in Vietnam and now the first ASME-accredited supplier of nuclear products in south-east Asia. Doosan Vina CEO Ryu Hang Ha described the certification as very significant. "It means that Vietnamese technicians now have the skill and expertise necessary to manufacture and supply the equipment required in Vietnam's soon to be launched nuclear power industry," he said.
Work is expected to begin on Vietnam's first nuclear power plant, two Russian-supplied VVER-1000 units, in 2017 or 2018.
