The China Experimental Fast Reactor completed a manual emergency shutdown test from full power on 31 July, China National Nuclear Corporation announced last week. The company said this marked the end of commissioning tests for the power test phase of the reactor and verified that its performance met the design requirements under stable conditions and expected transient operating conditions.

Unit 5 of the Tianwan nuclear power plant in China's Jiangsu province has been connected to the grid for the first time. The 1080 MWe domestically-designed ACPR1000 pressurised water reactor achieved the milestone at 19:52 local time on 8 August, China National Nuclear Corporation announced today.

The outer safety dome has been installed on the containment building of unit 6 at the Fuqing nuclear power plant in China's Fujian province. The unit is the second of two demonstration Hualong One reactors under construction at the site.

Loading of nuclear fuel into unit 5 of the Tianwan nuclear power plant in China's Jiangsu province was completed on 9 July, China National Nuclear Corporation announced the following day. Fuel loading at Tianwan 5 "laid the foundation for subsequent grid-connected power generation," it added.

The concreting of the outer dome of the double-layer containment building at unit 2 of the Karachi nuclear power plant in Pakistan was completed on 10 April, China National Nuclear Corporation has announced. The two Chinese-designed Hualong One reactors being built at the site are scheduled for commercial operation in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

France's Framatome has signed a long-term service contract with the Taishan Nuclear Power Joint Venture Company Limited to support operations of units 1 and 2 at the Taishan nuclear power plant in China's Guangdong province. The 1750-megawatt EPRs entered commercial operation in December 2018 and September 2019, respectively.

Installation has been completed of the reactor internals of the Hualong One reactor under construction at unit 3 of the Karachi nuclear power plant in Pakistan. Those for unit 2 were installed in January 2019. The units are scheduled for commercial operation in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

Hot testing at the world's first Hualong One reactor has been completed, China National Nuclear Corporation announced yesterday. The tests at Fuqing unit 5 laid a "solid foundation" for the unit's operation, the company said.

China's nuclear electricity generation rose by 18.1% last year, to 348.13 TWh, which is up from 286.15 TWh in 2018, figures from China's National Energy Administration show. Nuclear's share of total electricity production was 4.88% last year, up from 4.22%. According to the National Development and Reform Commission, China aims to have 200 GWe of nuclear generating capacity in place by 2035, out of a total generating capacity of 2600 GWe. Under those plans, thermal power plant capacity is expected to increase from 1190.6 GWe in 2019 to 1300 GWe in 2035.

Russia and China today signed the final acceptance protocol for the nuclear island of unit 3 of the Tianwan nuclear power plant, which transfers ownership to the Chinese customer for permanent operation. The protocol was signed by Alexey Bannik, vice president of ASE Group, Rosatom's engineering division, and Zhang Yi, deputy general director of Jiangsu Nuclear Power Corporation.

China Energy Engineering Corporation and China National Nuclear Corporation have entered into a strategic cooperation framework agreement, CEEC has told the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. The document was signed in Beijing on 7 January by Wu Yun, deputy general manager of CEEC, and Li Qingtang, deputy general manager of CNNC.
