Holtec, Sheffield Forgemasters team up on SMR forgings
Sheffield Forgemasters announced it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate with Holtec Britain - a division of Holtec International of the USA - on the development of components for its SMR-160 small modular reactor.

South Korean partnership to develop SMR-powered ships
Nine South Korean organisations have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on the development and demonstration of ships and offshore systems powered with small modular reactors. The partners will also develop marine systems and the production of hydrogen using molten salt reactors.

Myanmar signs new nuclear energy agreement with Russia
The Intergovernmental Agreement on cooperation in the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes will see the two countries working together on the use of nuclear technology in a number of areas, including training of a workforce for building and running a small modular reactor.

France, India and UAE announce cooperation roadmap
The foreign ministers of the three nations have formally announced a trilateral initiative which will focus on solar and nuclear energy, as well as the fight against climate change and the protection of biodiversity, particularly in the Indian Ocean region.

'No crisis' for Koeberg fuel supply as South Africa continues loadshedding
South Africa's Department of Mineral Resources and Energy has said there is "no immediate crisis" from the expiry of the Nuclear Cooperation Agreement between South Africa and the USA. Utility Eskom is relying on the return to service of Koeberg 1 later this year to help tackle ongoing capacity constraints.

Canadian and UK regulators agree terms for cooperation
Terms of Reference have been signed and published between the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and the UK Office for Nuclear Regulation for a Memorandum of Cooperation between the two organisations. They plan to share best practice and experience around reviewing Advanced Modular Reactor and Small Modular Reactor technologies.

Polish renewable energy trader Respect Energy has signed an agreement with EDF to cooperate on the development of nuclear power projects in Poland based on France's Nuward small modular reactor technology.

Korea and UAE agree to expand nuclear cooperation
South Korea and the United Arab Emirates have agreed to "deepen and accelerate collaboration in the peaceful nuclear energy sector". Several memorandums of understanding were signed during a meeting between Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol and UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nayhan.

Accord reached on extending operation of Belgian units
French utility Engie and the Belgian federal government have signed an agreement with a view to restarting the Doel 4 and Tihange 3 nuclear power reactors in 2026 and operating them for a further ten years. Both units are currently scheduled to be shut down in 2025.

Japan, USA to cooperate on advanced reactor development
The two countries plan to work together on the development and construction of next-generation advanced reactors including small modular reactors, Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Yasutoshi Nishimura and US Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm said after meeting in Washington DC.
