Nuclear 'a great field for students or people with trades to go into'
Michael Goff, Acting Assistant Secretary and the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the US Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy, says he would encourage people to go into careers in nuclear - his comments come in a newly released short film Nuclear Resurgence.
In the 15-minute documentary in which various high profile people involved in, or advocates for, nuclear energy talk about the changes in perceptions and the current outlook for expansion of nuclear capacity. It concludes with Goff saying: "I definitely think it's a good time to be in nuclear. I encourage any students that are considering nuclear to go into nuclear, or people in the trades area that want to go into different areas supporting nuclear construction or operation - I think it's a great field to be going into right now."
Producer Jarret Adams, CEO of Full on Communications, said: "We wanted this film to weave together the stories and perspectives of some leading figures in the sector - told in their own words - to examine the forces contributing to nuclear energy’s revival worldwide. In doing so, we wanted to show that this resurgence is not just about external factors like climate change and energy security, but also new technologies and new ways to talk about nuclear energy."
It also fitted in with the goal of "getting out front to tell the story of nuclear energy's successes and its role in our energy future", moving away from some of "the reactive and defensive communication" in the past.
