Langer Heinrich mine starts production
Thursday, 11 January 2007
The Australia-based company said that the construction and stage commissioning of the project had been successfully achieved by project engineer GRD Minproc, with a smooth transition of the project to Paladin's operational staff.
The process of plant optimization and construction rectification work will now continue as the Langer Heinrich operational team proceed with the ramp-up phase to achieve Stage 1's nameplate production rate of 2.6 million pounds U3O8 (1180 tonnes U3O8) per year.
The first contracted shipment of uranium oxide concentrate is expected to be shipped towards the end of the first quarter of 2007.
Paladin's Managing Director, John Borshoff, said the mining operation was well advanced, supplying ore to the crusher, while the processing plant had produced its first uranium oxide.
"The production that will result from Langer Heinrich represents an important step forward in the challenge to meet the rapidly growing demand for uranium in a rejuvenated nuclear industry," Borshoff said.
