Entergy owns eleven nuclear units at nine plant sites, primarily in northeastern and southern USA. The eleven nuclear units include five General Electric boiling water reactors (BWRs), three Combustion Engineering pressurized water reactors (PWRs), one Babcock and Wilcox PWR, and two Westinghouse PWRs.
Stone & Webster - a subsidiary of the Shaw Group - was previously awarded a contract by Entergy in October 2003 to provide maintenance and modification services for its fleet of nuclear power plants.
In April 2007, Shaw was awarded a $700 million contract to provide craft labour and management for maintenance and modifications to Exelon's fleet of nuclear power plants up to 2011. The contract essentially represented a continuation of a similar contract signed in 2001. Exelon owns the largest nuclear power fleet in the USA, with 17 reactors accounting for about one-fifth of the USA's nuclear electricity.
Ron McCall, president of Shaw's maintenance division, said: "Our partnership with Entergy has evolved through our simultaneous pursuit of safety and performance." He added, "Our renewed contract serving Entergy's nuclear operations demonstrates our commitment to pro-active strategic planning and response."
