Entergy owns eleven nuclear units at nine plant sites, primarily in northeastern and southern USA. The eleven nuclear units include five General Electric boiling water reactors (BWRs), three Combustion Engineering pressurized water reactors (PWRs), one Babcock and Wilcox PWR, and two Westinghouse PWRs. Entergy's nuclear plants include Pilgrim, Vermont Yankee, Indian Point, Palisades, FitzPatrick, River Bend, Grand Gulf, Arkansas Nuclear One and Waterford.
Cliff Eubanks, Entergy vice president of project management, commented: "A major aspect of ensuring safe and reliable operations at all our nuclear facilities is to continually upgrade equipment and components, either as an aspect of timely replacement of parts or because industry best practices and lessons learned make these enhancements smart."
Areva DZ is a joint venture formed between Areva and Day & Zimmermann in August 2009 to offer engineering, construction and maintenance services to US nuclear utilities. The joint venture primarily focuses on the balance of plant (BOP), implementing both major and minor nuclear plant modifications.
In October 2009, Areva DZ announced a five-year alliance agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to provide a wide range of services to TVA's fleet of nuclear power plants. Under the terms of that agreement, Areva DZ will provide BWR and PWR refuelling services, outage optimization, specialized non-destructive examination services, parts and materials and PWR refuelling tool maintenance and steam generator services.
