Production of the first dried and drummed U3O8 is the final step in the commissioning of the process plant at Lotus Resources Inc's 85%-owned project in Malawi.
 

The President of Malawi has officially inaugurated Lotus Resources' Kayelekera uranium mine as the project moves into the final stages of commissioning.
 

Lotus Resources says it can reopen the Kayelekera uranium mine in Malawi in 8-10 months - much quicker than its previous 15 month estimate. It is now targeting production in the third quarter of 2025.

Lotus Resources has entered the final phase of planning to restart the Kayelekera uranium mine in Malawi in late 2025. The Australian company is also working to optimise resources at Letlhakane in Botswana, with a resource update planned for the first half of this year.

Junior Australian uranium companies Lotus Resources Limited and A-Cap Energy Limited have agreed a merger to create "a leading African-focused uranium player with significant scale and resources".

Resuming operation of the Kayelekera uranium mine in Malawi will cost an estimated USD50 million, a restart scoping study has concluded. Australian-based exploration company Lotus Resources Ltd bought the mine - currently in care and maintenance - from Paladin Energy earlier this year. Lotus says it now plans to advance to a restart feasibility study.

Paladin Energy has agreed to sell its 85% interest in the Kayelekera uranium mine in Malawi to Hylea Metals Ltd for AUD5 million  (USD3.5 million) in cash and shares. Paladin says the sale will enable it to focus on optimising and restarting its Langer Heinrich Mine in Namibia.

A small quantity of uranium oxide concentrate has been removed for safe disposal after a "minor incident" during a routine shipment of product from Paladin's Kayelekera mine in Malawi.
