Loan for continued Petten operation
The Dutch government will provide a loan so that necessary upgrades can be made to enable the aging Petten research reactor to operate for a further ten years, by which time its replacement should have started up.

LFR fuel removed from Petten
The last used fuel from the Low Flux Reactor (LFR) at Petten has been transported to the Netherlands' central radioactive waste storage facility. Decommissioning of the research reactor is underway.

State aid for Pallas reactor cleared
An €80 million ($105 million) state loan for the construction of a replacement for the High Flux Reactor (HFR) in the Netherlands meets EU rules, the European Commission has concluded. The Pallas reactor will take over HFR's role as a major supplier of the world's medical radioisotopes.

Industrial accident at centrifuge plant

Mixed news on Netherlands new build
Dutch utility Delta has announced that it has postponed making a decision on whether to build a second reactor at the existing Borssele site by two to three years. Meanwhile the government has approved the construction of a replacement for the Petten research reactor.

Dutch nuclear plant to be 30% German-owned
Dutch municipally owned utility Delta is to own 70% of the Netherlands' Borssele nuclear power plant after reaching an agreement over plant ownership with RWE Group of Germany. RWE will own 30%.

Economics key to secure isotope supplies
Producers, governments and other participants in the global supply chain of molybdenum-99 must act to address an unstable economic structure that is threatening long-term security of supply of the vital medical radioisotope, the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency has warned.
