Spanish regulator sets conditions for Garoña restart

Licence amendment for Darlington
The Canadian nuclear regulator has approved a one-year extension to the operating licence of the Darlington nuclear power plant. This will allow extra time for preparation of information by Ontario Power Generation in support of its application for a licence extension to 2028.

US report urges focus on 'extreme' events
A new congressionally mandated report from the National Academy of Sciences has concluded that the "overarching" lesson learned from the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident is that nuclear plant licensees and their regulators “must actively seek out and act on” new information about hazards with the potential to affect the safety of nuclear plants.

Nuclenor fined for early Garoña closure
The operator of Spain's Garoña nuclear power plant, Nuclenor, has been fined €18.4 million ($24.9 million) by the country's financial regulator for shutting down the plant six months earlier than originally authorized.

Unsuitable crane led to Arkansas accident
The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission has revealed the cause of a fatal industrial accident that took place during refurbishment work last year at Entergy's Arkansas Nuclear One plant. In a letter to the utility, it said that an inappropriate lift assembly had been used.

Canadian regulator claims federal judge erred in Ontario ruling
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission says the judge who cancelled the site-preparation licence it issued for new reactors at Darlington "made errors that need to be clarified" in the federal court of appeal.
