Construction of Ukraine's used fuel storage facility to start in March
The "active phase" of construction work on a central used fuel storage facility at the site of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant is expected to start in March 2017, Oleksandr Rybchuk, general director of Atomprojectengineering said.

Kudankulam II project launched
India and Russia have officially launched the second phase of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant under construction in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu by Rosatom as part of an intergovernmental agreement signed between Moscow and New Delhi in 1998.

Grid connection for Pakistan's fourth reactor
Pakistan's Chashma unit 3 was connected to the country's power grid on 15 October at a ceremony attended by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission and China National Nuclear Corporation. The unit reached first criticality on 2 October.

Contract for nuclear islands of Xudabao Phase I
A contract has been signed for the civil construction of the nuclear islands for units 1 and 2 of the Xudabao nuclear power plant in China's Liaoning province. The units are the first of six AP1000 reactors planned for the site.

Haiyang 1 pumps operated at full-power
The four reactor coolant pumps at unit 1 of the Haiyang nuclear power plant in China's Shandong province have been operated simultaneously at full speed for the first time. The AP1000 is set to begin operating by the end of the year.

Iter transformer in place as materials tests continue

End walls in place for Chernobyl cover
Construction has been completed of the dividing walls between units 3 and 4 of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine, against which the New Safe Confinement over unit 4 will be placed. Completion of the new cover is scheduled for November 2017.

Work starts on on-shore infrastructure for Russian floating plant
A ceremony was held on 4 October in Pevek, Russia, to mark the start of construction of the coastal infrastructure for the first-of-a-kind floating nuclear power plant. The floating power and heat plant is set to be commissioned there in 2019.

Watts Bar 2 completes power ascension testing
Power ascension testing has been completed at Watts Bar 2, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) announced yesterday. The unit is now producing over 1150 MWe of energy as it begins preparations for commercial operation.

Final contracts signed for Hinkley Point C project
