Cerberus Nuclear and Assystem have been selected to deliver the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production reactor in-board shield design as part of the STEP Engineering Framework. STEP will be the UK's prototype fusion energy power plant.

An overnight capital cost of USD2900 per kilowatt for the next AP1000 series in the USA is achievable, according to an independent assessment by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Center for Advanced Nuclear Energy Systems. The report considers the cost in the context of the experience realised at the Vogtle site in Georgia, where two AP1000 units are under construction.

The Energy Security Strategy's ambitions are for eight new reactors, plus small modular reactors, helping to produce 24 GWe capacity by 2050, representing about 25% of the UK's projected electricity demand.

Bruce Power and Ontario Power Generation have agreed to work together to support new nuclear technologies in Ontario. The process of loading the 157 fuel assemblies into the core of unit 6 of the Hongyanhe plant in Liaoning province has been completed, China General Nuclear announced. The unit - the second of two ACPR-1000 reactors built as Phase II of the plant - is scheduled to begin operations later this year.
