Romanian utility Nuclearelectrica and Polish copper and silver producer KGHM Polska Miedź SA have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the development of small modular reactors. Both companies have previously signed agreements with NuScale of the USA on the deployment of its SMR technology.

Poland's Council of Ministers has adopted a draft act amending the act on the preparation and implementation of investments in nuclear power facilities and associated investments, the country's National Atomic Energy Agency announced. The main goal of the changes is to shorten the time of investment implementation.

US small modular reactor developer Last Energy has signed a Letter of Intent with Poland's Legnica Special Economic Zone and DB Energy on the construction of a power plant consisting of ten SMRs with a combined capacity of 200 MWe. The agreement also includes a power purchase agreement with a minimum length of 24 years by LSEZ and its tenants.

Two applications have been submitted to Poland's National Atomic Energy Agency for the assessment of small modular reactor technology. Copper and silver producer KGHM Polska Miedź SA's application is based on NuScale's VOYGR SMR power plant, while Orlen Synthos Green Energy's application concerns GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy's BWRX-300.

Polish state-owned energy company Enea SA has signed an agreement with US small modular reactor developer Last Energy to cooperate on the deployment of SMRs, potentially in Poland. Meanwhile, France's EDF has signed further cooperation agreements with Polish companies to support its offer to supply 4 to 6 EPRs in Poland.

US engineering and construction firm Bechtel has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with two affiliates of Japan's Toshiba to collaborate on the delivery of steam turbines and generators for Poland's first nuclear power plant.

Bechtel has signed Memorandums of Understanding with 12 Polish companies for the potential development of two new nuclear power plants in Poland. The US engineering firm said more agreements will follow in the future.

Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power has submitted to Poland what the country called a "technical and price offer" for the construction of six APR-1400 reactors.

Poland sees the involvement of its industry in the Finnish nuclear sector as a springboard for its own new-build aspirations, an international business forum in Warsaw has heard. The Polish-Finnish Nuclear Industry Forum saw companies from both countries discuss cooperation.

Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe, the Polish government company that is progressing its policy to deploy up to six reactors at multiple sites in the country by 2040, has submitted the environmental impact assessment report for the first plant.

At a meeting with US President Joe Biden, Poland’s President Andrzej Duda said that he believed the two countries' nuclear energy programme "will be able to get off the ground soon".
