Belgium needs nuclear and renewables, report finds

Paris Agreement enters into force

Nuclear and the fight against climate change

Climate change agreement moves closer
India yesterday formally deposited its ratification of the Paris Climate Change Agreement with the United Nations. The European Union is set to do the same after ministers last week gave their approval. EU ratification will take the number of signatories over the final threshold needed for the agreement to enter into force.

Nuclear 'vital' to Sustainable Development Goals
Nuclear energy is relevant to "almost all" of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted last year by the United Nations General Assembly, World Nuclear Association Director General Agneta Rising said today. Rising spoke during the Scientific Forum of the International Atomic Energy Agency's 60th General Conference being held this week in Vienna.

IAEA sees growth in nuclear capacity to 2030
The International Atomic Energy Agency projects continued growth in nuclear electricity generating capacity to 2030, although at a slower pace than previously anticipated. The Agency highlights nuclear energy's role in meeting global climate and sustainable development goals.

Reactor restarts pivotal to Japan's energy policy, says IEA

The nuclear industry can achieve the momentum required to create an additional 1000 GWe of new capacity by 2050, Agneta Rising, director general of the World Nuclear Association, said yesterday. Low emissions from Canadian uranium mining
Uranium mining and milling contribute only a small amount to nuclear energy's already low greenhouse gas emissions, the first comprehensive life cycle assessment of greenhouse gas emissions produced from Canadian uranium mining operations has found.
