JSC Akkuyu Nuclear, a subsidiary of Russia's Rosatom, said today it had received two loans of up to USD200 million and USD100 million, respectively, for a period of seven years from Sovcombank to finance the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey. The loans are being provided on special terms, Rosatom said, including a reduction in the interest rate "when the borrower fulfills its sustainable development covenants". Sovcombank is one of Russia’s 10 biggest banks, with assets totalling RUB1.6 trillion (USD20.27 billion).

The four nuclear power units under construction in Turkey will be completed one per year between 2023 and 2026, Anastasia Zoteeva, CEO of the Akkuyu Nükleer AS project company, said in a television interview with Bloomberg HT on 8 February. Zoteeva also said the Rosatom majority-owned company was open to talks with potential investors in the project, for which it has a power purchase agreement for the first 15 years of each unit's operation.

GE Steam Power has delivered the first Arabelle steam turbine module for the Akkuyu nuclear power plant under construction in Turkey. Manufactured at its factory in Belfort, France, the turbine module is the first equipment delivered by GE for the project and was delivered four months ahead of schedule.

The Volgodonsk branch of Russia's AEM Technology has completed the manufacture of the reactor cover for unit 1 of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant under construction in Turkey. The product weighs 93 tonnes and has a diameter of 4.5 metres.

Turkey's nuclear regulatory authority (Nükleer Düzenleme Kurumu - NDK) has issued a construction licence to Russian-owned JSC Akkuyu Nuclear for unit 3 of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Mersin province, in southern Turkey.
 

The reactor pressure vessel for unit 1 of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey was delivered to the site yesterday, Rosatom has announced. The equipment was transported 3000 km over 20 days from the Atommash quay at the Tsimlyanskoye reservoir in Volgodonsk, Russia to the Eastern Cargo Terminal at the Akkuyu plant site, which is in Mersin province. Atommash is a subsidiary of Russia's AEM Technology.

Rosatom has completed the delivery of steam generators for the Akkuyu 1 and Rooppur 1 units under construction in Turkey and Bangladesh. The equipment was produced by Atommash, part of the Volgodonsk branch of Rosatom’s engineering subsidiary AEM Technology.

The development of a national nuclear industry facilitates a country's economic growth while at the same time keeping in harmony with low-carbon and sustainable development, Yaroslav Mozdakov, director for communications and international affairs at Rusatom Energy International, said last week during a webinar hosted by the Expert Group on Resource Management of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. REIN is a subsidiary of Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom.

JSC Akkuyu Nuklear has announced the completion of concrete pouring of the reactor and turbine buildings' foundation slabs at unit 2 of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant under construction in Mersin province, in southern Turkey. The 4800 MWe plant will comprise four VVER1200 reactors and is expected to meet about 10% of Turkey's electricity needs. Rosatom’s first build-own-operate venture, the USD20 billion project is based on an inter-governmental agreement signed between Russia and Turkey in May 2010.

Russian-owned JSC Akkuyu Nuclear has announced delivery of the core melt trap for unit 2 of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant to the construction site in Mersin Province, Turkey. The company describes the equipment as the most important part of the unit's passive safety system.

Atommash, part of the Volgodonsk branch of Russia's AEM Technology, is ready to ship four steam generators to unit 1 of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant under construction in Turkey. The equipment, each weighing 355 tonnes, will be transported 3000 km by ship to the construction site in Mersin province, in the south of the country.
