Nuclear regulator Rostekhnadzor has granted a licence to build the country's first land-based small modular reactor, in the Republic of Sakha (also known as Yakutia) in Russia's Arctic north.

Up to 20 Holtec SMR-160 plants will be built in Ukraine under a cooperation agreement signed between Holtec International and Ukrainian national nuclear operator Energoatom. The agreement calls for the first plant to begin supplying power by March 2029.

Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Alberta to collaborate on the deployment of small modular reactor technology - including the Korean-designed SMART reactor - in the Canadian province.

Finnish utility Teollisuuden Voima Oyj has issued an acceptance certificate to the Areva-Siemens consortium for the Olkiluoto 3 EPR, which began regular electricity production on 16 April. It said the 1600 MWe reactor is scheduled to enter commercial operation on 1 May.

Polish copper and silver producer KGHM Polska Miedź SA has submitted an application to the country's Ministry of Climate for a decision-in-principle on the construction of a small modular reactor power plant.

Rosatom and the Corporation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic have signed a cooperation agreement relating to the construction of a Russian small nuclear reactor power plant in the Republic of Sakha (also known as Yakutia).

Test production has been completed at the Olkiluoto 3 EPR in Finland and the plant has now started regular electricity production, operator Teollisuuden Voima Oyj has announced. TVO said the reactor will soon be declared to be in commercial operation.

Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe has submitted an application to Poland's Ministry of Climate for a decision-in-principle on the construction of the country's first large nuclear power plant. Meanwhile, Orlen Synthos Green Energy has announced seven potential sites for the country's first small modular reactors.

Hungary and Belarus have signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation relating to the projects in both countries for new Russian VVER-1200 nuclear reactors.

A joint special purpose vehicle - named PGE PAK Energia Jądrowa SA - has now officially been formed by Polish companies ZE PAK and Polska Grupa Energetyczna to implement the project to construct a nuclear power plant in Pątnów in central Poland. The plant will comprise two APR1400 reactors supplied by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power.

Installed nuclear capacity is set to more than triple by 2031, and nuclear power plants are likely to generate about 9% of the country's electricity by 2047, according to Minister of State Jitendra Singh. India's nuclear power plants generated more than 3% of its electricity last year - despite representing only 1.6% of the country's installed capacity.

Hungary's Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto and Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev have agreed on amendments to the construction and financing agreement for the Paks II nuclear power plant, following talks in Moscow.
