Toshiba Corporation is to sell its claims against Westinghouse Electric Company and Brookfield - which is buying the Westinghouse-related shares that it holds - to Nucleus Acquisition. The Japanese company said it has entered into an assignment and purchase agreement with Nucleus and a share purchase agreement with Brookfield.

Cooperation on nuclear power technology is to be expanded between China General Nuclear and the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission under an agreement signed yesterday in Beijing. Brookfield Business Partners, together with institutional partners - collectively known as Brookfield - has agreed to acquire 100% of Westinghouse Electric Company from Toshiba Corporation for total of about $4.6 billion, the companies announced today.

EDF Energy has awarded nuclear services company Cavendish Nuclear a five-year contract to support the continued operation of its UK fleet of advanced gas-cooled reactors (AGRs). The contract is worth some GBP7.5 million ($10.2 million).

A number of "deficiencies" in the project to construct and commission units 1 and 2 of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant have been identified by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India. A performance audit was conducted to assess whether Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited exercised prudent financial management and implemented the project in an efficient manner.

JSC Isotope is to supply isotope products to Brazil under a five-year agreement signed with the National Nuclear Energy Commission (CNEN). According to the agreement, which is in addition to Russia's current weekly supplies to Brazil of molybdenum-99 (Mo-99) and iodine-131, JSC Isotope will supply lutetium-177, yttrium-90, cobalt-57, and sources of ionizing radiation based on iridium-192 and germanium-68/gallium-68 generators.

Areva SA and EDF have signed definitive binding agreements setting the terms of the sale of New NP, Areva NP's nuclear reactor operations. The transaction is scheduled to close by the end of this year. The sale price for 100% of New NP's equity has been confirmed at €2.5 billion.
