Funding of up to USD275 million to advance the deployment of a NuScale Power Corporation VOYGR small modular reactor plant in Romania was announced at the G7 leaders' summit by the USA and "multinational public-private partners" from Japan, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates.

The first simulator for the control room of a NuScale VOYGR small modular reactor power plant in Europe has opened at the University Politehnica of Bucharest in Romania. The simulator is the fifth in total, but the first outside the USA.

Kazakh national atomic company Kazatomprom announced the completion of the shipment of uranium via the Caspian Sea to Romania. The uranium will be used by Nuclearelectrica to start production at its CNU Feldioara processing plant, which the Romanian company has said is now ready to begin operations.

Romania's Nuclearelectrica and Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on the "potential development and expansion of nuclear energy programmes in the United Arab Emirates and Romania as well as within central and eastern Europe".

Italy's Ansaldo Nucleare has signed a contract with Canada's SNC-Lavalin for the supply of engineering services for plant life extension of unit 1 at Romania's Cernavoda nuclear power plant. The project is one of the preparatory activities for modernisation awarded by Romania's nuclear energy company Nuclearelectrica to SNC-Lavalin.

Nuclearelectrica has welcomed the adoption of the law approving a support agreement with Romania's government for the proposed units 3 and 4 at the Cernavoda nuclear power plant. The firm said it allows the start of the next phase of the project.

A two-year USD65 million agreement will see Candu Energy, part of SNC-Lavalin Group, conduct pre-project work for the lifetime extension of unit 1 of Romanian nuclear operator Nuclearelectrica's Cernavoda nuclear power plant.

NuScale Power Corporation has submitted an application for approval of its updated small modular reactor design to US nuclear regulators. The company has also signed a contract with Romania's RoPower Nuclear S.A. for front-end engineering and design work toward the deployment of a VOYGR-6 SMR power plant at Doicești.

The draft law submitted to Romania's parliament covers a state support agreement with Nuclearelectrica relating to the estimated EUR7 billion (USD7.4 billion) project to complete two units at Cernavoda, where the country's existing two reactors are located.

RoPower Nuclear has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Donalam, part of Italian steel maker AFV Beltrame Group, to explore cooperation and investment opportunities relating to the development of the first small modular reactor project in Romania.

The Export-Import Bank - the USA's official export credit agency - has issued two Letters of Interest for the financing of US-sourced pre-project technical services at the Cernavoda 3 and 4 nuclear power project in Romania.

Minister of Energy Virgil Popescu says Canada and the USA are both offering to help with the financing of the construction of Cernavoda 3 and 4 and said the US firms Fluor Corporation and Sargent & Lundy, Canada's SNC Lavalin and France's Framatome had agreed to "explore opportunities for cooperation in the civil nuclear field" with Nuclearelectrica.
