A major lift has put in place the inner dome on the second reactor at Bangladesh's Rooppur project. The work was completed more quickly than the same operation for unit 1 due to experience gained.

The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission for technological cooperation in nuclear research and development.

The inner dome has been placed on the VVER-TOI reactor under construction in Russia at Kursk-II 2, while a VVER-1200 unit at Rooppur 2 in Bangladesh is approaching the same stage with the placement of its fifth containment ring.

Welding of the primary circuit has begun at the first unit of Bangladesh's Rooppur nuclear power plant. The work was heralded as "one of the key events in the construction of a nuclear power plant" by Russia's state nuclear company Rosatom, which is building the plant.

All four of Rooppur 1's steam generators have been lifted into position, Russia's Rosatom has announced. Separately, Rosatom's export subsidiary Atomstroyexport is working with the Bangladesh Ministry of Health on a vaccination programme to protect workers at Rooppur from COVID-19. Bangladesh's first nuclear power reactor is slated to start up in 2023.

The world's only nuclear powered cargo ship yesterday set sail from the Russian port of St Petersburg laden with a cargo of components destined for the Rooppur nuclear power plant under construction in Bangladesh. The NS Sevmorput, which is operated by Rosatom enterprise Atomflot, is transporting the 1400 tonne cargo - described as mainly comprising "metal structures and mechanisms" - to the port of Vladivostock.

Bangladesh wants to build another nuclear power plant after its first one is completed, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said yesterday as work at the Rooppur plant reached a critical milestone. "If we are able to build another nuclear power plant, we will no longer face a power crisis," she said after inaugurating the installation of the reactor pressure vessel at Rooppur 1. Hasina's words were reported by the country's official news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha after a briefing from her press secretary Ihsanul Karim on a meeting with Rosatom head Alexey Likhachov.

The major components have been delivered for the second nuclear reactor under construction at Rooppur in Bangladesh. The reactor pressure vessel and four steam generators weigh 1700 tonnes in total.

The dome of the inner containment shell of unit 1 of the Rooppur nuclear power plant in Bangladesh is now being installed, Rosatom announced yesterday. The metal structure has a diameter of 44 metres and a weight of 185 tonnes. The operation is being carried out by Trust RosSEM, using a Liebherr heavy crawler crane that has a lifting capacity of 1350 tonnes. The day before lifting, a special mounting traverse of 15 steel cables was installed.

The reactor pressure vessel and first two steam generators for Rooppur unit 2 have started their journey from the Volgodonsk branch of AEM-Technology JSC in Russia to the construction site in Bangladesh.

Rosatom has announced completion of hydraulic tests on the reactor pressure vessel of the second unit at the Rooppur nuclear power plant under construction in Bangladesh. The tests, which confirm the tightness of the base metal and weld joints, were conducted by Atommash, which is part of Atomenergomash, the engineering subsidiary of the Russian state nuclear corporation.

The steam collectors for unit 1 of the Rooppur nuclear power plant under construction in Bangladesh have been dispatched by the Volgodonsk branch of Russian Rosatom’s engineering subsidiary AEM Technology. The Rooppur plant will consist of two VVER-1200 reactors.
