China helps South Africa develop its nuclear workforce
South Africa has signed two further nuclear energy cooperation agreements with China as part of preparations towards the possible construction of new nuclear power units. The move came as the first group of South African workers began a nuclear power plant training course at a Chinese university, as agreed under an earlier accord.

Sudden death of Khan Resources president
Jim Doak, the president of uranium developer Khan Resources, passed away in his hotel room on 24 April, the company announced. The Canadian citizen was staying in Ulaanbataar for meetings with the Mongolian government.

Oskarshamn 2 simulator approaches commissioning
A new simulator is nearing completion at unit 2 of the Oskarshamn nuclear power plant in Sweden, operator OKG said today. The simulator is part of a safety modernization of the unit started in mid-2013.

US nuclear plants celebrate performance
Latest reliability and safety indicators for US nuclear power plants continue a pattern of consistently high results dating back more than ten years, according to the US Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI). Meanwhile, an NEI study has shown that Florida's nuclear plants contribute over $1.4 billion per year to the state's economy.

Areva looks to consolidate German activities

Rosatom plans Chinese expansion with new office
Rosatom plans to open a regional centre in China "as early as" the middle of this year, the Russian state nuclear corporation announced yesterday. The announcement followed a decision taken by the company's committee on strategic partnerships, alliances, mergers and acquisitions.

KazAtomProm CEO dies suddenly aged 44
Nurlan Kapparov, the chief executive officer of Kazatomprom, passed away unexpectedly yesterday. Kapparov, who was 44, suffered a heart attack during a working visit to China, the Kazakh uranium mining company said today.
