Uranium imports do not threaten the national security of the USA, President Donald Trump has decided in his response to the Uranium Miners’ Section 232 Petition. He did however call for a "fuller analysis" of national security considerations with respect to the entire nuclear fuel supply chain.

The Namibian Competition Commission has conditionally approved China National Uranium Corporation’s acquisition of Rössing Uranium Limited. It is the only approval needed for the transaction to be completed. Rössing, the world's longest-running open pit uranium mine, has been in operation since 1976 and has a nameplate capacity of 4500 tonnes U3O8 per year.

Paladin Energy has agreed to sell its 85% interest in the Kayelekera uranium mine in Malawi to Hylea Metals Ltd for AUD5 million  (USD3.5 million) in cash and shares. Paladin says the sale will enable it to focus on optimising and restarting its Langer Heinrich Mine in Namibia.

The US Supreme Court has upheld Virginia's 37-year moratorium on uranium mining, ruling that the state-level prohibition is not pre-empted by the US Atomic Energy Act.
 

There are "no radiation safety-related obstacles" for granting multi-metal company Terrafame a permit to recover uranium as a by-product from its Sotkamo mine, the Finnish Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority has told the government. The government will now make the final decision on whether to issue the permit.

The US Department of Commerce has set out 24 goals to safeguard US access to mineral commodities designated as critical to the nation's economic security. Uranium is one of the minerals on the critical list.

The environmental impact assessment process for Denison Mines Corp's 90%-owned Wheeler River project has formally begun with the acceptance by Canadian national and provincial regulators of the project description for the proposed in-situ leach uranium and processing plant.
 

The first samples of uranium oxide product have been produced from ore from Aura Energy's Tiris mine in Mauritania, West Africa. The yellowcake samples were produced during test work at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation's laboratories.
 

The USA produced 33% less uranium in 2018 than 2017, according to the US Energy Information Administration's 2018 Domestic Uranium Production Report. Meanwhile, Uranium One has published NI 43-101 technical reports including resource figures for five uranium exploration and development properties in Wyoming.

Azarga Uranium Corp has suspended activities at the Kyzyl Ompul uranium project in Kyrgyzstan, the company confirmed on 3 May - the day after the Kyrgyz parliament voted to ban uranium mining and exploration in the country.

Kazatomprom's uranium production for the first quarter of 2019 was 4% down from the same period in 2018 as the Kazakh company continues with its plan to reduce production. Meanwhile, US uranium production for the quarter was 74% down from 2018.

Cameco will ramp up its uranium purchasing strategy in 2019, and expects to take delivery of between 19 million and 21 million pounds U3O8 (7308-8078 tU) of purchased uranium this year to meet current 2019 sales commitments. About 60% of this is expected to come from the spot market.
