Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction has been contracted by China Techenergy Company to supply an Industrial Anti-seismic Protection System for units 7 and 8 of the Tianwan nuclear power plant in Jiangsu province. Earlier this year, CTEC - a subsidiary of China General Nuclear - awarded the South Korean company a contract for the IAPS systems for units 3 and 4 at the Xudabao plant in Liaoning province.

Construction of unit 3 at the Xudabao nuclear power plant in China's Liaoning province officially got under way on 28 July with the pouring of first concrete for the reactor's nuclear island. The unit is one of four VVER-1200 reactors to be supplied by Russia to China under a 2018 agreement.

Unit 5 of the Hongyanhe nuclear power plant in China's Liaoning province has completed commissioning tests and met the conditions for entering commercial operation, China General Nuclear has announced. The company now has 25 power reactors in commercial operation with a combined generating capacity of 28,261 MWe.

China General Nuclear announced today it is taking unit 1 of the Taishan nuclear power plant in China's Guangdong province offline to replace damaged fuel rods. Last month, an increase in the concentration of noble gases in the primary circuit of the EPR was attributed to a few damaged fuel rods.

China National Nuclear Corporation has launched a district heating demonstration project at the Qinshan nuclear power plant in Zhejiang Province. The project, in cooperation with the Haiyan County Government, will "provide a nuclear energy solution to solve the heating problem in southern China," the company said.

The decision to take unit 1 of the Taishan nuclear power plant in China's Guangdong province offline to investigate a fuel failure issue lies with the plant operator, EDF said yesterday. However, it said under its own operating procedures for its French units, operation of the EPR would be temporarily halted to carry out such inspections and take corrective measures. It noted the chemical composition of the primary circuit water at Taishan 1 remains within regulatory threshold limits.

The reactor pressure vessel for the first of two Hualong One reactors under construction at the Zhangzhou nuclear power plant in China's Fujian province has passed the factory acceptance inspection. Zhangzhou unit 1, construction of which began in September 2020, is scheduled to enter commercial operation in 2024.

Tests have been completed to evaluate the strength and leak tightness of the inner containment of unit 6 at the Fuqing nuclear power plant in China's Fujian province. The unit - the second of two demonstration Hualong One reactors at the site - is scheduled to begin operations by the end of this year.

Construction officially started today of the ACP100 small modular reactor demonstration project at the Changjiang nuclear power plant on China's island province of Hainan. China National Nuclear Corporation said the project will be the world's first land-based commercial SMR. The multi-purpose 125 MWe pressurised water reactor - also referred to as the Linglong One - is designed for electricity production, heating, steam production or seawater desalination.

China has manufactured its first domestically-designed 100-tonne used fuel transportation cask. China National Nuclear Corporation said batch production of the Longzhou-CNSC cask - which can hold 21 used fuel assemblies - will further consolidate its used fuel transportation capabilities.

Unit 5 of the Hongyanhe nuclear power plant in China's Liaoning province has today been connected to the electricity grid, the China Nuclear Energy Association announced. The 1080 MWe domestically-designed ACPR1000 pressurised water reactor is scheduled to enter commercial operation later this year.

Construction of the Beishan Underground Research Laboratory has begun near Jiuquan City in China's Gansu province, the China Atomic Energy Authority has announced. The laboratory - which will be situated in granite up to 560 metres below ground level in the Gobi desert - will be used to test the suitability of the area for the long-term storage of the high-level radioactive waste.
