Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom has pre-authorised Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power as the sole bidder for a contract for the procurement of certain equipment and materials, and the construction of the main and auxiliary buildings and structures of the turbine islands of units 1-4 of the El Dabaa in Egypt by AtomStroyExport. Turbine hall equipment for the plant is to be supplied by AAEM LLC, a joint venture of Atomenergomash and General Electric.

German utility RWE has awarded a contract to Westinghouse to dismantle two reactors at the Gundremmingen nuclear facility. It has also contracted a consortium comprising Framatome and Transnubel to dismantle the reactor of the Emsland plant.

A year-long, CAD8.4 million (USD6.6 million) contract will see Canada's Candu Energy prepare the licensing basis for two new Candu pressurised heavy water reactors at Romania's Cernavoda nuclear power plant. The signing was celebrated by the governments of Romania and Canada, as well as the USA.

A consortium including Italy's Ansaldo Nucleare and Romania's Reinvent Energy has been awarded a contract worth about EUR20.0 million (USD22.5 million) for the design, procurement, installation and commissioning of a research facility for the development of lead-cooled reactors. The Advanced Thermo-Hydraulics Experiment for Nuclear Application facility will be built at the RATEN-ICN research centre near Pitesti in southern Romania.

A contract signed by the Ukrainian nuclear operator Energoatom and US vendor Westinghouse will trigger the engineering and procurement of components for the first of several AP1000s planned for Ukraine. The country is planning as much as 11 GWe of new build by 2040.

Rosenergoatom has agreed to partner with Russia's biggest steelmaker, NLMK, on clean power supply, including potentially the supply of nuclear energy to new facilities at the huge Stoilensky mining and processing site. "Increasing the share of low-carbon energy sources is one of NLMK Group’s priority initiatives," the company said.  "Nuclear energy is one of the main decarbonisation tools, currently accounting for a third of global low-carbon electricity production," it added.

A contract has been signed to complete the main concrete works of Argentina's CAREM-25 small reactor. Henisa Sudamericana will employ up to 250 workers in the work, which is central to the project, according to a government announcement.

The Chinese shipbuilder Wison Heavy Industry will provide the hulls for the Cape Nagloynyn floating nuclear power plant, according to a report by TASS. The rated power of the plant has also dropped since its first announcement.

Westinghouse of the USA and Czech utility ČEZ yesterday signed a nine-year project agreement to upgrade the instrumentation and control systems at the Temelin nuclear power plant. As the original supplier, Westinghouse will partially renew and upgrade selected control and management systems. The value of the contract was not disclosed.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has received orders from Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd for the turbine islands for six nuclear power units - four at Gorakhpur and two at Kaiga. BHEL said the INR108 billion (USD1.5 billion) order for turbine island EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) is its "largest ever".

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction has signed an engineering service contract with X-energy of the USA for studies into the manufacture of major components for the Xe-100 small modular reactor. The South Korean company said participating in the project will help it to diversify its own SMR business.

US nuclear waste disposal company Deep Isolation has been awarded a contract to conduct a borehole feasibility study for ARAO, Slovenia's radioactive waste management organisation. The study will examine whether a deep borehole repository could dispose of used fuel from Slovenia's TRIGA II research reactor at the Josef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana.
