More than half of the 1533 fuel assemblies have been removed from the storage pond of Fukushima Daiichi unit 4 and transferred to a central storage pool on the site. The remainder should be removed by the end of the year.

Sellafield Ltd has become the first to sign a cooperation agreement with the Tepco subsidiary responsible for cleaning up the Fukushima Daiichi site. The companies will share their decommissioning experience. 
Tepco has begun pumping groundwater so that it bypasses the Fukushima Daiichi plant, reducing the volume of contaminated water that it must deal with. The water will be stored and tested before being released into the sea.
Two robots have been jointly developed by Hitachi and Hitachi-GE Nuclear Energy to help investigate the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan. One robot is submersible while the other is shape-changing.
A newly published study of the radiation doses received by Fukushima residents has concluded that most people in the prefecture are unlikely to receive doses significantly different to normal background radiation levels as a result of the accident.

Japan has received around 200 international suggestions on concepts to remove the remains of the Fukushima Daiichi reactor cores.
A series of photographs showing progress in the removal of tsunami debris from the damaged Fukushima Daiichi plant has been released by Tokyo Electric Power Company.
